About

I am a Christian veterinarian that is working to bring some humor, education, and love to the world around me. At the age of 4, I told my parents that I was going to be a veterinarian. Did I have any idea of what I was getting into? Absolutely not! Am I blessed beyond measure to have this opportunity to live my dreams and the life that I believe God intended for me? Yes, I am! I don’t have all the answers, but I hope to bring some light into your life. Thank you for taking time to visit the craziness of my life.

I recently had someone ask me which came first, being a veterinarian or being a Christian. The quick answer is that my vow to God to follow Him came when I was a child and gets reinforced regularly. My oath upon becoming a veterinarian happened as an adult and in many ways is a lot easier to live. The question has a deeper answer though, so here goes. God has been in my life as long as I can remember and before. My announcement to my parents about becoming a veterinarian happened before I have my first memories of it as well. I believe that God made me to do both, but when it comes down to it, I am a Christian first and a being a veterinarian is the tool that I use to be His hands and feet on Earth. So, yes, I am a Christian first. I strive every day to do the best I can to live the life of compassion and love that Christ calls us to live. Do I fail some days? Yes. Do I try to change my heart and repair transgressions? Yes. Do I always succeed? No. Despite my failings, I know that God loves me, that I love Him, and His love is there for everyone, there is no exception.

  2. I feel so blessed to stumble upon this blog 🙂 I’ve always wanted to be a vet for as long as I could remember and as I grew to learn more about animals, my passion for them grew as well. And I could say the same with my relationship with Jesus. I also learned to love His people because I loved Him. It is true that God comes first before… everything! But as college drew closer, the more panicked I became. Do I really want to be a vet? What if God wants me to be a doctor for people instead?

I started searching for a second option and in came, Nursing. I was always known as the awkward type and I would cry whenever I was told to speak in front of crowds, but I also grew to love Nursing the more I learned about it. And now I’m stuck…

My love for animals didn’t fade, I started growing interested in the field of medicine, but most of all, I wanted to glorify God. I have no idea what I’m so worried about, but Lord, I lay my dreams all to You.

Thank you so much for this blog! ^_^ it feeds my passion. May God bless you!

    • Mary, thank you for sharing. There are so many options in this world. We can glorify God in all we do, as long as we put Him first and remember that His guides are love and kindness for us. No matter what you decide to do, I am sure you will be a blessing to many. If it helps, I do know many people that have had other careers (such as nursing) before going onto veterinary school. It is very expensive and is grueling to get through. As much as I love veterinary medicine and the ways I can help people and animals through it, you have to know the realities before making the decision. I will keep you in my prayers. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to talk through your options with someone that understands. – Melanie

      • Thank you for adding me into your prayer list, that means so much. 🙂 I feel that I have researched all too much about those two careers, but doubts still seem to form 🙂 I keep Romans 8:28 close to me, reminds me that whatever happens (good or bad), God allowed it for my good.

.. I will sure do. Thank you once again! ❤
